In the 1980s when more and more tourists got to know of Samos, Votsalakia-Kampos, which is named after the tavern at the saeside, has already been the number one beach on the island. Slowly a well-organized tourist center was established around the tavern, which caused the beach to become even more famous.
This is not surprising considering the great scenery with crystal-clear water on the one side and the highest mountain of the island on the northern side. Moreover there are warmer temperatures than on the northern side of the island as well as an excellent infrastructure and great opportunities to go hiking or to bike.
